The working principle of the soft starter adopts a three-phase reverse parallel thyristor as the voltage regulator, which is connected between the power supply and the motor stator. This circuit is like a three-phase fully controlled bridge rectifier circuit, as shown in Figure 1 for the main circuit diagram. When using a soft starter to start the motor, the output voltage of the thyristor gradually increases, and the motor gradually accelerates until the thyristor is fully conductive. The motor operates on the mechanical characteristics of the rated voltage, achieving smooth starting, reducing the starting current, and avoiding overcurrent tripping during starting. When the motor reaches the rated speed and the starting process is completed, the soft starter automatically replaces the completed thyristor with a bypass contactor, providing rated voltage for the normal operation of the motor, reducing the thermal loss of the thyristor, extending the service life of the soft starter, improving its work efficiency, and avoiding harmonic pollution in the power grid. The soft starter also provides a soft stop function, which is the opposite of the soft start process. The voltage gradually decreases and the number of revolutions gradually decreases to zero, avoiding torque impact caused by free parking. Selection of soft starters: Common soft starters in the market include bypass type, non bypass type, energy-saving type, etc. Choose different models of soft starters based on the nature of the load. Bypass type: When the motor reaches the rated speed, a bypass contactor is used to replace the completed soft starter, reducing the heat loss of the thyristor and improving its work efficiency. You can also use a soft starter to start multiple motors. No bypass type: The thyristor is in a fully conductive state, and the motor operates in full voltage mode, ignoring voltage harmonic components. It is often used for motors that work repeatedly for short periods of time. Energy saving type: When the motor load is light, the soft starter automatically reduces the voltage applied to the motor stator, reduces the excitation component of the motor current, and improves the motor power factor. (2) Specification selection: Select the starter based on the nominal power of the motor and the nature of the current load. Generally, the capacity of the soft starter is slightly greater than the working current of the motor, and consider whether the protection function is complete, such as phase loss protection, short circuit protection, overload protection, reverse sequence protection, overvoltage protection, undervoltage protection, etc. The characteristics of Alt48 soft starter adopt patented torque control technology when starting. The torque ramp rises faster and the loss is lower. It has a comprehensive protection function for the motor and soft starter, which can continuously detect the motor current at all times, providing reliable and complete protection for the motor. This protection function can still work after the bypass is started, which is not available in other soft starters. Alt48 calculates the power of the stator and rotor in real-time while maintaining the acceleration torque. Continuously calculate the motor power factor and stator loss throughout the entire acceleration cycle, calculate the power factor by detecting voltage and current, and deduct the stator loss to obtain the actual rotor power and motor torque. The application of a soft starter is that one soft starter with two water pumps can start and stop two water pumps in sequence. The main feature of the one to two scheme is to save one soft starter, reduce investment, and fully reflect the economy and practicality of the scheme.
